Briggs & Stratton will mothball two production lines at a Wisconsin plant, resulting in 160 layoffs as the company shifts production to two of its plants in the south. The new round of layoffs follows the Wauwatosa, Wisconsin-based company ceasing production in fall 2022 of lawn tractor and snow-thrower production in Wauwatosa. That shutdown affected about 90 jobs represented by the United Steelworkers union but the company said it retained most of those employees with other positions. Briggs & Stratton also shuttered its Germantown distribution center in April 2022, impacting what the company said was a small number of hourly employees.
