Owners of nine properties on North Avenue sued the city of Wauwatosa to recover a combined $62,520 in special assessments, claiming in their lawsuit the state actually financed the construction work they're being asked to repay the city for. The point of debate is a reconstruction of West North Avenue in the area of Interstate 41, especially between 114th and 117th Streets. The state is rebuilding parts of that segment of North Avenue as part of the north leg phase of the Zoo Interchange reconstruction.
